Marcus (Garfield) has been kept under his father’s thumb, forgoing college and idling his time in the family garage and restaurant with his grandmother, Joan (Streep). Closing up one night, his world is changed by Willow (Knightly), who rides in on her motorbike needing an immediate repair. Things escalate and suddenly they’re waking up together on the office couch the following morning. Willow decides to stick around, finding the quaint town the perfect hideaway, and makes herself at home in his apartment above the garage.
Joan is busy with the restaurant, serving the regulars in their podunk town. James (Stewart) has been a regular since Joan and her previous husband opened thirty-five years ago. Appreciating the regular business, Joan and James strike up their usual conversations, which since her husband’s death two years prior, have turned into flirtation. It’s not long before they have their own tryst, Joan feeling passion she hasn’t had in years.
Willow’s father, Andrew (Neeson), arrives in town with all of his pomp and circumstance, looking for his wild daughter. He gets help from an understanding father, Todd (McGregor), who asks his son Marcus if he’s seen this mysterious girl.
Will the overbearing fathers discover what’s going on? Will James’ and Joan’s passion for each other last longer than just the moments they have together? Can Marcus and Willow escape from this town and be free from their fathers?
